This is the final newspaper ad. From our drafts we asked people which one they preferred and this was the one they liked so we chose this one
The image that I thought I would make prominent was the triangle as it is linked with the illuminati and freemasonry as it was said that it represents their everlasting power. As these once hidden society's are now in the limelight an nearly everyone knows about then so I came up with idea to almost melt and distort the triangle to symbolize there society's falling apart as some secrets like their identity are out.

The text used in this adverts is the same text used throughout our three tasks, the text was created using Dafont this site allows you to choose many font but we thought that this font was the best as it wasn't playful but serious which went well with our advertisement and subject of the documentary.

QR (Quick Response)

QR Code (abbreviated from Quick Response Code) is the trademark for a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code) first designed for the automotive industry. More recently, the system has become popular outside of the industry due to its fast readability and large storage capacity compared to standard UPC barcodes. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded can be made up of four standardized kinds of data e.g. numeric, alphanumeric, byte/binary, or through supported extensions, virtually any kind of data.

We created one of these QR's for our newspaper advertisement to make it more interactive for the audience. We found a QR creator on a website called http://qrcode.kaywa.com/

This is what the website looks like you then add you web address or text or images into the the section where it says content, in this case I am going to add a website.

I will then press generate for it to create my QR.

This is my QR.

Newspaper Advert text

The text for our newspaper advert we found off Dafont.com which gives us a variety of fonts, I decided that I was going to use the font that we featured in our documentary which was called 'Archeologicaps'

This is what the text looks like, we liked the text as it wasn't playful and was serious which suited our documentary and would go well on our advertisement.

Draft of Newspaper advertisement ideas

These were some ideas me and Josh came up with for the newspaper advertisement our inspiration was from and advertisement we saw for a new series called 'Alcatraz'

We will have one prominent image along with a title, and then we will have on the bottom the channel it will be on, the time, quotes from newspapers, a QR ( a barcode which can be scanned by smart-phones which direct you to an image, text or a website etc.) and ways to comment on our documentary by having Twitter and Facebook symbols in the bottom.  conrner.

Newspaper Advert conventions

Since newspaper adverts have been created there has always been conventions that have come with it, me and my group have to stick to some of these conventions in order to get the best response from an audience.

These conventions are:

  • Image- The image must be relevant to the subject being advertised e.g. if you advertising food, then there may be a picture of what the food may look like, or the city where it originated.
  • Logo- Of the company e.g. channel 5, Mcdonalds, Channel 4
  • Slogans- Slogans don't necessarily have to be used but have been a very good way of caching audiences attention as it may stick in their head, so they will remember the advert which is exactly what the advert wants the audience to do.
  • Description- The description is usually about the subject being advertised, such as films. They would give a brief description of the film but not to much, only enough to catchy the audience attention.

Newpaper Advert history

Newspapers adverts have been used in publications since the late 1830s, 70/80% of of newspapers revenue comes from advertising. The main idea behind newspapers allowing there publication was so that as they were getting a lot of revenue from advertising so they could lower there prices which means it increases the customer base.

This is a newspaper advert from the late 1830s/1900s as you can see it is very basic, it says exactly what it is advertising 'AMERICAN CIRCUS' it doesn't have any gimmicks, slogans etc. You can see that is has been drawn and then printed as you can see the strokes from a pen, even after it has been printed.

imgres.jpg

You wouldn't see an advert like this in this age, as you can see it is very old and outdated and today's consumer is a lot more demanding and need catchy slogans and images for them to show any interest, if there was an advertisement like this in a publication nowadays it would get no audience.

By the 1930s printed images were changed to black and white photos, this was only possible due to technological advances in the production of photographs, this made it cheaper for newspaper companies to use.

Advances in advertisements were also made as people started adding more text like catchy slogans, to catch more people attention to increase their customer base and it also gave more to look at instead of basic one picture and one piece of text.

By the 21st century newspaper adverts started to decline in National newspapers due to advances in the Internet and TV channels such as Sky and ITV and there websites, convergence played a big part as they could get to there consumer base a lot easier. Smaller companies such as The Metro and Express and Star still use newspaper advertising as major a income to keep the paper running. The most common advertisements to be found in these newspapers are more likely to be blockbusters in cinemas or exclusive television shows.

Problems constructing the Radio Ad

Whilst constructing the radio ad we came across a few problems, one was the technology available. The micro phone we used to create the voice over only records in  mono, meaning the voice only comes out of one speaker or earphone. This has caused the voice over to become echoed. If we had new equipment, this would have given the radio ad an even more professional sound instead of
We also had problems with students from other classes just wondering in and making noise, so we had to stop recording until they were dealt with and start the whole process of the voice recording again.
Also the various people we used for the radio trailer at times couldn't compose themselves at times meaning it took longer for them to record what we needed.

Finished Radio Advert

This is my finished radio trailer, I felt that this radio trailer captured the conventions of a good radio trailer, it has one voice throughout the whole trailer so it doesnt seem to deffrentiated which could be off putting for the audience and have also used music that realtes to the illuminati.
A radio trailer is meant give the audience information but without giving to much away, just enough to entice them into watching it, which I feel my radio trailer has captured perfectly.

This is our finished Radio Advert, as you can hear we have stuck with the original idea of the conventions. It only has one voice throughout and music that relates to Illuminati history. I believe that this radio ad does what it is meant to do. It gives the audience information on the documentary without giving too much away all at once.

Radio Trailer Music

As Matthew is a musician we thought it would be best if we let him decide what type of music would fit best with the documentary and as he was familair with composing music we also thought it would be best if he tok lead in the creation of the music. As a group we discussed what type of music we would need that will suit our documentary and Matt came up with the genre Choral, his reason being it fits in with the music which was around when the Illuminati was started in the 18th century.

Mattew and Faraz started creating the choral music in garage band, which is a program that is found on Apple Mac computers, the genre that Matt had chosen was very mysterious as it was written and sung in Latin which most people dont understand as it is not that common. Matthew purposely created overpowering music, as Faraz himself has a very powerful bold voice so it would compliment it perfectly.

Music for Radio Trailer

Me and my group are currently working on creating our own music that will be produced in GarageBand and included within the radio advert and documentary. We decided that we want to create our own music so we can get the exactly what we want, we are going for a classical and mysterious sound to add an atmospheric touch and fit in with the themes of the documentary as it is a mysterious subject, at the moment we are cutting and adding different sounds that will suit the documentary. After we have created the music that we want the music created will be used in the background of the radio advert.

Voice Over

Today we start on the voice over for our radio trailer, we tested with 4 people that had multiple goes and each time tried a different approach using the same script, this would give us a wider choice when it comes to picking the best one. We then discussed as a group if was best that we chose Faraz's voice over, as the narrator of the documentary we thought if we kept it consistent it would add a better feel for the radio trailer as what is said in the trailer entices the audeince so if it is the narrator saying it it may draw them in more.

Radio Plan

We're gonna stick to the major conventions and stick to one voice over and the music will last throughout.

The music will start, which we created in garage band.

Faraz (Narrator) will start talking, introducing himself, and then say what his aims are and how he will find out.

He will give some background on the illuminati but that of which leave the audience wanting more, and then finish by saying the time and date it is on.

Radio Adverts

This radio advert is very good, they get a variety of opinions from people from all around the world, and they all say 'mmmmm' in a different accent this then leads to the  narrator telling you a bit about the product making it sound a lot better, but there is also a catchy little theme tune, which is 'Little Bitty Pretty One- Thurston Harris' which stick in your head and makes you think about the advert.  I think I could use this aspect within my radio advert getting permission to use a catchy well known song, to add the same effect.

This is another radio advert but for KFC, even though this is nothing to do with advertising documentaries, I can pick specifics from the adverts and use them where possible, like this advert is trying to be scary but in a very humorous way, what I found clever was how they said 'Whatever you do, don't eat it on your own' this is clearly  a technique to draw more people in to buy the food instead of one person going on there own, I could use a quick snappy catchphrase that will draw people into my documentary, as it is a conspiracy I could finish my advert with a rhetorical question which will want to make the audience answer it as it is  a mysterious theme behind our documentary.

Finished Documentary

 This is my finished Documentary.

Editing the Documentary

Editing was a big issue with my documentary. We needed to cut different parts of the interview footage and stick them with other pieces so the interview didn't go on to long. This may seem simple, but no. We had to edit it so the footage didn't jump to much, some parts we couldn't do so to resolve this problem we added a transition so the jump couldn't be seen.
We had to change the colour and brightness of some clips and footage as the image became distorted due to bluetoothing from laptop to mac. By changing the brightness it meant the distortion could no longer be seen. As we changed parts of the footage the whole documentary had to be changed because you could see which clips were edited.
One thing that we wanted to edit was archived footage that we tried to get off Youtube. Unfortunately we wasn't able to get the videos of Youtube due to technical faults and also copyright legislation. So we came together and thought up of ideas and we decided to grab still images from the music video0 and then add a voice over which is relevant to the image. We had to edit the music by trimming, changing parts around and shortening some of the music clips and fading some out so the documentary didn't look unprofessional due to bad editing.
With the documentary itself we edited footage at the beginning by adding a jump cut, which is a very unrecognised techniques when seen in documentaries. We chose this technique as it gives a mysterious, intense feel as when the host is walking towards the camera it cuts and jump forward which makes you feel uneasy.

Radio Advert

Today we have started our research into radio adverts. Radio adverts for documentaries usually have a voiceover as in the documentary itself, this is usually done by the narrator himself and the advert will include some little voice clips from like an interview within the documentary.

The advert also acts as an enticing tool to create awareness and capture the audience's attention as well as informing people of when it is due to come on TV or online.

I am now going to evaluate some adverts and say what I like and dislike about them, these evaluations will all add up to the construction of my radio advert as I can use what I like to make mine better.

Flash Problems

I have created a sequence of moving images for our title introduction sequence, but we had trouble exporting it into iMovie, so we had to spend a lot of time trying to export it and change the file into a movie to then upload it, but it wasn't letting us turn it into a movie, after a while I found out how to convert it and then finally uploaded it to iMovie ready to edit in.

Scripting Problems

For our documentary I felt that we didn't need an extensive script. We couldn't really write a script for when we was carrying out interviews or discussing the interviews afterwards because we don't know what would be said so the only part we could write a script for was the opening, and some question but not all because some questions were asked on what was said in the interview. If we had wrote script the documentary would have been rehearsed and not real so it couldn't really be classed as one.

Target Audience

I feel due to the content we have within our documentary it will not only appeal to the younger generation but an older one, we have interviews from a perspective that younger people can relate to but also we have an interview where older more educated people can relate also, I feel by doing this we have widened our audience.
Our audience isn't gender based which I feel is an advantage as both genders can watch it and not feel as if there gender aren't meant to, the subject isn't aimed at a particular gender for example, a documentary on the history of rugby will be aimed at men even though women may show interest and a documentary on hair-care and beauty will be aimed at women but men may show interest, so I feel our topic will a diverse audience.

Music for Documentary

Me and my group have decided that we should keep the same music running through out the documentary, this was so the music didn't become the main focus of the documentary which would distract the audience from the information given. Also we made the music quieter than the radio ad so that you could hear the narrator clearly, as when he is giving information during the documentary we don't want the audience to feel like the music is drowning the narrator out making it hard for them to hear.

After we created our documentary, we realised we didn't have any music for the beginning of the extract, we tried creating something on garage band, but with limited music available this was impossible to do. So we decided to use classical or opera. We started searching for music that could be used, we tried using music from Mozart as this kept to the Freemason/Illuminati theme. Unfortunately we didn't find anything suitable.

We needed something that changed tempo and dynamics, so we looked for composers that are considered the most intense composers of the 1800s. Composers such as Beethoven and Wagner.
As Matthew is a classical musician, he has played many pieces of operas and classical music and suggested using Richard Wagner's Overtures from his many operas. First we came up with this.

This has some of the techniques we were looking for, such as key change, dynamic change and tempo change. I felt however that this music wasn't mysterious enough for the part we needed. We also need parts of music that were accented and powerful outbursts for when the "Illuminatum" title appears. Matt then suggested we try looking for music from the opera Götterdämmerung especially siegfried funeral march, has all the things we needed to finish the documentary.

We used garage band to cut the parts we needed out, we then used theses cut out parts to layered on to the moving image at the beginning of the extract.
